I'd love to try the bodhran, but there's so many out there I don't know where to start. What's the best kind to learn on? Are the cheap/souvenir ones really that bad, or do I really have to spend �50-100 on a 'proper' one?

Yes ... spend a bit and get a proper tuneable one.

The souvenir ones are just what it says... cheap sh*%
