I remember a single that came out probably during the late 70s early 80s. It was made up of snippits of other singles to tell a story (it wasn't the hooked on classics). Some of the songs included are maggie may and leader of the pack.

I remember bits of it was "look who just got back today" followed by "rent a santa" and later on there was a bit that came from maggie may "oh maggie i wish i'd never seen your face" refering to maggie thather in this instance i think.

I would like to know what the record was and who released it please as it is driving me mad not being able to remember

thanks

Hi kate2962,

There was a DJ in the late 1970s called Chris Hill who had a couple of novelty Xmas hits with 'Bionic Santa' (Xmas 1976) and 'Disco Santa' (1978). I was a kid at the time and although I don't recall exactly which songs he used it was the first time that I'd heard someone cobble together snippets of different songs to tell a story. Might be him.

Hi again kate2962,

I can now clear this up 100% for you - its definitely 'Bionic Santa' by Chris Hill (I tracked down an mp3 copy of the song and snippets of those other songs you mentioned are all in there). Well remembered ! I would offer to e-mail you a copy of it but I'm literally just about to leave for a week's holiday. If you would like a copy just drop me an e-mail address and I'll send it to you as soon as I get back -
