Why does UK R&B not seem to do well in the US, while the US counterparts do well here in the UK??

Breaking America is a problem for artists across all music genres, not just R&B. For instance, whilst we can't get enough of Robbie Williams and Oasis over here, the US couldn't give two hoots about them. There are a variety of reasons why the US is so difficult to break, not least the sheer size of the place. Apparently in the US, radio play is everything and without it, an artist won't come close to denting the charts. In the US there are thousands of stations across the land who need to play an artist's track to make it a hit; whilst over here we only have a handful of 'major' radio stations that an artist's PR people need to 'work' on.
