Hi..it would be best to speak to a professional music teacher as they can normally put you in for your grades. You can also speak to someone at your local college's music department to see if they do any of the grades or if they know of some one who can help you in your area. Be warned as it does cost to do the exams. You can also find books that can help you study towards your exams such as:

I hope this is of some help andi wish you the best with your flute playing (it's such a nice sounding instrument)

Best to get yourself a teacher in the beginning, especially if grades are the way you want to go. Most teachers are experienced in coaching and preparing students for them. A decent music shop should be able to give some 'phone numbers of local teachers.

Most people (but not all) take Associated Board exams. There are others - Guildhall, Trinity etc, but AB are the best known and produce a wealth of preparatory material. Here's theire website:

By the way, where are you? I'm in touch with a couple of very good flute teachers.

Thank you.

I would like to use a teacher but can't really afford to do it every week, nor can I find the time.

Do you know if I used a teacher if it would be possible to just have monthly lessons?

I'm located in merseyside if anyone knows of any good teachers?
