I think you'll find it was by Elvis Costello & The Attractions from the album 'Armed Forces'.
I thought it was 'Civil War' by Guns 'n' Roses

ohh sunflower go to starsailor mb and have a look at the gig of three parts thread on anything you like someone has kindly put up the setlist. It was great. He did first part on his own with guitar, then acoustic with band then full electric set. It was Coolio!!
I also think you'll find that it was written by Nick Lowe, though there were very close ties with the Elvis back then.

T'was indeed written by Nick Lowe - and there were close ties amongst the producers and artists on the Stiff label.

Unfortunately, more people remember "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding" from a cover being on the soundtrack album to that godawful Whitney film "The Bodyguard" (where another song, a perfectly decent Dolly Parton track, was murdered.)

yep, Nick Lowe was the guy. It must be strange....you are a musician for years, write and produce great songs then one song gets included in a film soundtrack and suddenly you earn millions.
