Ok, it's not film or tv, but anyway:

Who do you think will take over from Johnny Walker after he leaves at the end of March?

It seems to be between Stuart Maconie and Chris Evans. Personally I think Maconie is the better of the two, I will go as far as to say I will throw my radio out the window if Evans gets the job.

Any thoughts?

thanks

I would hope Maconie, I know he has filled in for JW many times, and done a good job

Evans is good at the odd occasional show..couldnt cope with him long-term

I could go for a whole day of Wogan, Bruce, and Vine. Those 3 are the best

Cant stand Sarah Kennedy (Im thankful I dont get up that early any more), & Steve Wright gets on my nerves as well

once was fortunate enough to the great mr wright in action... it was in the foyer of broadcasting house, steve wright walked in holding a tatty carrier bag. the guy on security asked for some i.d. my face is my i.d. says wright. exactly sir, now can i see your i.d. laugh? i thought my trousers would never dry....
I'll really miss Johnny Walker when he finishes up, he's one of my favourite R2 DJs. But, I do love Stuart Maconie and think he's been excellent whenever he's stood in for JW. Chris is fine in small doses, but I always listen to Johnny's show, so would much prefer to hear Stuart every evening.

paul...LMAO!!!!!

I agree with Maconie he's been excellent standing in for johnnie although no one could ever replace him completely.

Oh God, not Chris Evans - please. Apart from anything else, his show's too similar to Steve Wright's and you can have too much of a good (sic) thing.

Somebody who'll carry on the JW policy of playing the sort of music you don't hear all the time

I hope it is Stuart Maconie. As I have always liked it to be him when Johnny was away. he plays alot of rare Northen Soul classics.
Question Author

This seems to be going the way I would have hoped.. Maconie has a great taste in music I feel.

The last thing I want is "zany zany" Evans every night of the week.

I dont think Maconie would be comfortable in the slot permanently. I think he enjoys his place on the side lines and to take a permanent slot might mean he has to give up is Critical List and all Singing all dancing shows which i think is where his heart really lies.\
saying that if the money is right i'm sure he'll get over it!

I would hope it is Stuart Maconie, he has a great sense of wit, and he assumes a level of intelligence on the part of his listeners. I find Johnnie Walker (whisper it!) a bit thick. You listen when he is interviewing people - as they finish an answer he always goes "Right ..." as though he either wasn't really listening, or didn't really understand, or didn't really care, or maybe any or all of them!

I don;t wish the guy any harm, but i for one think he is well past his sell-by date. If they can just get rid of that Sally woman, my evening listening will be blissfull.

I'm going to miss JW -- he's the reason I started listening to R2. His joshing with Sally Traffic creases me.

I'll keep listening if Stuart Macaroni takes over, but if its the Ginger Whinger then I'm back to The Arrow on DAB.

Oh dear this is new to me. I love JW. Admittedly I have been busy recently and missed him. Is he poorly again? I really hope not. He's really the only one I can stand nowadays on R2, apart from Vine.

I do like Stuart M; he'd be the best replacement.

Didn't know he was leaving. I'm a big R2 fan, listening to most shows from Terry Wogan up to Johnny Walker, and then Mark Radcliffe in the late evening,Janice Long in the wee small hours. It has the best range of music than any other radio station. I would like to see Stuart Maconie get the job. He also writes a good article in Country Walking magazine.
