Which song has the longest period of silence in it? I nominate Queen's Body Language which stops for about 2 seconds half-way through before picking up the beat again. Any others?

It's not really a "song" but 4'33 by John Cage is certainly a contender, consisting of nothing but silence!

John Cage again:
"As Slow As Possible", the performance, being done on a specially-constructed autonomous organ built into the old church of St. Burchardi, is scheduled to take a total of 639 years after having been started at midnight on September 5, 2001. The first year and half of the performance was total silence, with the first chord -- G-sharp, B and G-sharp -- not sounding until February 2, 2003."

two contenders from my own collection:

Small Faces - I feel much better ( 5 sec )

Roxy Music - In every dream a heartache ( 10 secs )

Beat me to John Cage, Aquariel !!

Due to the record pressing plant refusing to handle a Crass album until an allegedly blasphemous track was removed, the album was eventually pressed with the contentious track muted, but all the grooves intact. It was renamed 'The Sound of Free Speech' and consisted of around 5 and a half minutes of silence.

There's two huge gaps in 'Sad But True' by Metallica.
At the end of Strawberry Fields the Beatles left a gap of about ten seconds then put in some strange noises, which I suppose are technically part of the record. I think there's something similar at the end of A Day in the Life.
Rob Dougan has a track called 'Pause', on his album 'Furious Angles'. It's about 40 seconds long I think.
Have never timed it, but there's a longish gap in "Fire" by the Pointer Sisters after they sing "my heart stays cool" and before they sing "Romeo and Juliet."
