Watched it last night and when I saw it was over 2 hours long I wilted a little as I thought it too long.

However it was my first time watching it with subtitles and I thoroughly enjoyed it as well - so did sister.

We did think Bette Davis was just wonderful throughout the whole movie - ok Joan Crawford was good but she didn't really have much action as she was constantly in the bedroom.

We just wondered was the movie or the actresses awarded any nominations for any awards.

PS - From me - if any of you watched - the young daughter of the nosy neighbour next door was actually Bette Davis real life daughter.

>>> We just wondered was the movie or the actresses awarded any nominations for any awards

Bette Davis received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role and a Golden Globes nomination for Best Actress - Drama, as well as a BAFTA nomination as Best Foreign Actress (as did Joan Crawford). She was also nominated for Top Female Dramatic Performance in the Laurel Awards.

Victor Buono received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and a Golden Globes nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

The movie's only Oscar went to Norma Koch for Best Costume Design, Black-and-White.
I went to a live audience with Bette Davis once where people in the audience could ask her questions. Someone who knew she didn't like the president much said "What would you give President Nixon if he came to dinner?" and she replied "The same as Joan Crawford, a rat."

LOL, I can understand that.

Crawford and Davies never got on

yes - I read that in a programme that Sylvia Syms was making about a variety of stars and Bette actually said those words, however when one of Joan Crawford's (after she died) daughter wrote "Mommy Dearest" - Bette was not pleased at all.

Some more tittle tattle. Joan Crawford was FURIOUS that Better Davies was nominated for an Oscar but she wasn't. So after the awards were announced she persuaded Anne Bancroft to allow her to pick up her award if she won in the same (Best Supporting Actress) category.

Anne Bancroft was appearing on stage in New York at the time and wouldn't have been able to go to the ceremony in LA.

Bancroft won, and Crawford was able to walk out on stage and accept on her behalf.

It may seem like a little thing, but it was a message to Davis.

Incidentally if you like that movies, I STRONGLY recommend to have a look at the French & Saunders pastiche from the early 90s. It's so good that when I watch the original movie I get mixed up as to what was in the spoof and what was in the real film.

I've just looked for it on YouTube. This is the only version I can find and it has a big BBC watermark on it!
