Recorded from last night and just watching it now. Wondering how Hotel California never even made the top 30 biggest selling hits in the UK!

I think it got to No 1 in USA & No. 8 in UK.

I guess you bought singles if your faves weren't particularly into producing albums or you just happened to like a one-off record & not so much their other stuff.

Tigger,back in 1977 there were thousands of good records being released every day.Nowadays there are one or two good records being released every year.Most of the stuff on Radio one nowadays are just white noise with lyrics.Radio two is a wee bit better,but only thanks to Ken Bruce.

Bit OTT that, well less than hundred singles were released a WEEK (in fact usually released on a Friday, and maybe a few dozen were good.
But most kids today would say the 1977 stuff was tripe and current stuff is far better. Its just opinions

Roy, most folk never heard a B side until they had actually bought the single.
Most of the bands i followed from approx 14 years of age tended to produce albums rather than singles. One or two exceptions, from time to time, but i never bought any.

I bought all the Jam , Stranglers, Pistols singles (plus ELO on coloured vinyl!) then as a young teenager with my paper money

I was disappointed in the number 1. It might have sold the most but it wasn’t my choice for ‘best’.

I watch a lot of reaction videos on YouTube and many of the reactioners are loving the old songs. Led Zep, Queen and PF are some of the favourites and get the best reactions. And these are from American youngster who have only ever listened to hip hop, rap etc. It's great to see them enjoying the music I grew up with and also they recognise songs that have been sampled.

Yes its just opinions isnt it. Bet your granparents used to do there equivalent of a facepalm when you insisted your music was better than there generations.
I prefer 77 music BUT theres been dozens of good records this year too. I could list 100 great songs from this millenium

Finished watching ages ago and then my parents came round.

I quite like Mull of Kintyre but definitely Hotel California is one of the ultimate classics.
