There is a program which is free for a trial period called CopyPod,which enables you to take the music directly from your ipod back on to your hard drive. The website is www.copypod.net
You can try Tansee iPod Transfer which can backup songs and videos in iPod to PC, copy iPod songs and videos to new ipod, computer or notebook.

Because iTunes prevent you from copying iPod files to PC, you need special software to backup your iPod files to PC. I have been using tansee to copy iPod files to PC for a long time, it works really nice for me, you may download it for a try, here is a step by step guide about it
