Violin Music On Bbc R4

Was anyone listening to the Drama (Vive la Republique) on the radio earlier?
If so do you recognise the piece of music they kept playing a few bars of?
I know it's a classic, but I just cannot think of it.

Thanks Mamya, looked there first, no mention of music. Then I went to the BBC Tracks site, it said there was nothing on there. Oh well.

My father used to whistle the song when he was driving the car way back in the early 1940's. Brings tears to my eyes :)
