We just got another tank a 55 gallon... I already had a 15 gallon and had a fish that the kids won at the fair . we have had the fish now for  3 years......Well, I moved the fish to the 55 gallon tank thinking he would enjoy the room which he did.......But, the other day we went to get more fish and i asked if the tiger barbs were good fish and if they would nip the tail of our beloved "fair fish" they said no   .......Well as you may know that is not the case   they doooo!!!  grrrrrrr!!!   well i went to my room and seen my fish on the floor not moving but when i touched him he moved so i put him back in the tank  he was not moving much    but those stupid barbs started messing with him so i quickly moved him back to the 15 gallon tank       He is pale and his tail is damaged a little it is ripped.......his eyes are a little off.....he moves but not much       what can i do for him?       He hasnt ate yet  ( this all happend tonight)        But he isnt laying on his side.   He just sits there      do you think this is something that will heal with time?        I am getting rid of those barbs and giving that store a piece of my mind!!!!!        I believe he is a fan tailed gold fish    calico         Who would of thought that you could become so attached to a fish?       Any advice would be great        thanks

Well for a start I think you will find goldfish are coldwater fish and barbs are tropical fish.  I have tiger barbs and have never had any trouble with them with other fish.  As for the one whose poorly. You can go to your pet store and there are medicines you can put in the water but fish are easily shocked.  I don't know where you are but Interpet do a large range of medicines. I would check again with your pet store about keeping  these fish together. I have 2 calico and I think they are really nice  fish different to the average gold fish. Believe me you can get attached to a fish. I had an oranda with swim bladder and I ended up hand feeding it twice a day with live blood worms because it couldn

sorry didn't finish it. Meant to say it couldn't get to the food itself. Good Luck with yours . You could try putting some salt in the water (proper salt from the pet store) that sometimes helps. Again I wish you luck

Well, This A.M. the goldie is doing well.     WHEW!    Thanks for reply

hi there, hows goldie doing?

I would say the best thing to do would be to keep his small tank nice and quiet, keep the water nice and clean and aerated, and cross your fingers. maybe a touch of Melafix would be a good idea, its a herbal remedy that helps with skin lesions and so on. Works a treat on my fish!

Goldfish can be surprisingly resiliant, its amazing what they pull thru.

Let us know how you get on!

AWWW.... Thanks for your concern, Goldie is doing well! He still has his moments when he likes to just lay still... But, he is also acting more normal everyday....He is excited to see me and he likes to give kisses thru the glass.. hee hee He is still in the smaller tank and I put a silver dollar in there with him for a bit of company ( since the silver dollar's mate had passed they both needed a lil company) But, I am still upset with my tiger barbs I am taking them back!!! They chase all the others and cause alot of trouble........

Goldie's tail is still damaged do you know if that heals or will it stay ripped? I AM SO HAPPY HE IS DOING WELL!!! WHEW! He is about 7 inches long and about .5 to 1 inch thick and we got him when he was tiny so he means alot to me !! (never knew you could care for a fish so much my family thinks im nuts!) Thanks Again For Reply's

When our goldfish (also from the fair) got sick. He couldn't get up to the top to feed, kept sinking! I went to the vet with the measurements of the tank, described what the fish was doing and he gave me some antibiotic to put into the tank. The fish got better really quick. It was a bit embarrassing telling folk I actually went to the vet for a goldfish!!! But, I don't care, he was my pet.
