Love this song, have vague wonderings of what it might be about - but really no clue - and it's driving me mad. Help please?

Hi - thanks for taking the trouble to answer.

The OCS forum is a pain in the neck and takes centuries to load - have tried several times to do a search on there and it either freezes up or comes up with a load of random pages that have no bearing on the song! Haven't got the time to trawl back thousands of posts to in a vain effort to find an answer.

Had also tried songmeanings.net, and although the song and lyrics are listed - there is no explanation as to the meanings.

Seems like I'm destined to never know....!
