Woke this morn with an old song running through my mind - anyone remember 'When you come to the end of a perfect day'?
Reminded of an evening in a forces canteen in Mombasa - full of blokes enjoying the inevitable cuppa - no ale!
A vivid memory of a lady in her wheelchair began to play the piano.
The room was suddenly quiet as, along with a younger woman, she sang this old melody.
The applause was terrific.
Couldn't think of all the words - but found the lyrics on Google and can now go to bed happy!
Today has been anything but perfect as it has been raining heavily and I couldn't get out on my scooter
Goodnight all.

for 237sj - was in Mombasa for only short while in 1943 - I was Royal Navy and missed my hammock when we were stuck in tents at a camp called English Point. Does that ring a bell?
When were you there?
Guess it is all changed now with posh hotels.
I remember the beautiful mornings and the swimming.
There was a rowboat ferry across the harbour - landed at Vasco da Gama Street!
happy days.
Well I wasn't there as long ago as you jacklee. I was there in March 1982. I did all of the usual sights - Voi, Tsavo, Treetops, Amboseli (from where I could see the snows of Kilimanjaro and I always said that one day I would go back there and climb up it and I did do that in 1995), I have been to most of the world in my life but there is nowhere that has made such an impact on my in my life as East Africa.
