The kind of poverty Bono is talking about isn't what people in this country experience, click the link below to find out where you rank in the worlds wealthiest people.

I'm a plumber and I'm in the top 10% of the worlds richest people, if you only earn 97 per week (5000) per annum you are in the top 14%

What do you mean he doesn't play live?  I saw him live twice in Manchester just a few weeks ago.  It WAS live.

He is NOT rich enough to wipe out world poverty - which should not be confused with debt.  They are linked, but separate.

I also find it hard to respect someone who is pleased about world poverty.  You said "I agree with poverty".

I hope you give very generously to The Big Issue etc - as someone who's probably in the top 14% richest people in the world - you could probably afford to wipe out poverty in thehis country, eh?

kev100 - The link was amazing by the way.  If I get one of the jobs I've recently applied for, my starting salary will put me in the top 0.87%.  That's SO scary!!!!

i love ignorance like yours mate.   'look after our own first' ... so niaive

You may hate U2 and Bono for their music but i dont think they would really care of your opinion on that.  At least now with the so called 'going on' at you from bono+bob you have educated your self to be aware of others needs before your ignorant self.  You may disagree about helping the third world and thats your perogative of course but at least you perhaps have a better understanding of it which is brought about by celebrities, musicians and people in the public eye talking about it.

Keep your money in your pocket to treat and lavish your own life... thats best... just when you see starving dying african children dying every 3 seconds just close your eyes and think about spending three quid on a pint - much better !

I wonder if you swapped places with one of these poor souls for a month you be crowing the same tune! People like you ought to be ashamed of your self even to the extent in placing your selfish thinking on a web site, go and crawl back under your stone!.........

I do agree that they should look after the poverty in this country but its nowhere near as bad as out there at the end of the day over here there are places where the homeless can go and people do give to the homeless. And whats this about bono not singing live he was live when we seen him a few weeks ago, youre just having a stab at him cos you dont like him i suggest instead of wasting your time blowing off put your money where your mouth is and help to stop this poverty what ever country we live in, it doesnt sound like bonos the ****** to me!

jamie_john,  It would apperar that the only "W**ker" on this thread is YOU!  The trouble with people like you is that you cant see beyond your own nose; people starving in the world and all you've got to worry about is wether or not Bono+Geldof can sing.  Be grateful that you will wake up in the morning!  Many wont!
glad you brought this up jamie_john ?!

acw - you have applied for a job that pays 45000 per year ?

lucky you !

Oh - maybe I copied it down wrong.  I typed in 30,000 - that's the going rate for a trainee solicitor in London in their first year.  Just rechecked - it's top 0.877%

Obviously I don't HAVE the job yet - I'm just thinking how scary it is that there must be SOOOO many people living on literally nothing.

Mind you - if it's not done on relative wealth then it does detract a bit.  But still - scary stuff.

PS - Agree with all comments reidentifying the w*nker.  jamie_john - I hope you are thoroughly ashamed of yourself.  If you started this thread just to p*ss people off, don't take any satisfaction.  I get from the tone of the posts that people are laughing at you, or pitying you for being so naive, rather than getting irate about your unintelligent narrowminded comments!

in some way i totally agree with jamie_john, it's weird cos all this about live 8 n making poverty history has been overshadowed by the 7/7 terrorist attacks in london, we was all focused and worring about another country then look what happens to ours! n do u see any other country helping us out when the attacks happend?? (apart from america). ask yourself if the tables were turned do u think africa would be helping us out if we were in there situation?
-- answer removed --

If the tables were turned then yes.  We would be in poverty, strangled by corrupt leaders, disease and civil war.  They would be affluent countries whose leaders might occasionally lie and make mistakes but they don't deliberately sabotage attempts to improve the lives of their own citizens.  I think in that situation, Africa WOULD help Europe + the US.

Can I ask - how do you "in some way totally agree"?  Surely you either totally agree, or you in some way agree!?  Plesae clarify.

I don't think i could add anything else to what the other threads have said about poverty except you are obviously a ignorant soul and about bono not singing live,do you think people would have been paying to go and watch u2 live for the past 27 years (I think it is,feel free to correct) if he didn't and couldn't? I don't
awc what i meant was yes jamie_john has a point about looking after your own first, dont get me wrong i believe it's a great thing we are doing by trying to make poverty history and making other people lives better, the african people need more then most education and education on sex dont they realise that whatever dease they have it will be carried on to your unborn children that really gets to me, why do they keep having kids if they are born to war, dease, starvation in that sence the parents are being selfish! but what makes me a little frustrated is the fact it's not our fault their country is like it is and a while back in africa when the africans where killing the white farmers, those white farmers were giving them jobs trying to help them out and then they decide to kill them! imagine that happening in this country! god forbid! awc i ask u, do you put africa before our country? funny all this has come from a 'music' question lol

No I don't put Africa before I country - but I've never been called to either.  I'm a very patriotic person actually.

However, it's the scale of it all that jamie_john fails to realise.  I'm not saying that being homeless is something that's the person's own fault, but there are already many charities working to help the homeless and those in poverty in the UK.

Given that we cannot eradicate homelessness in the UK (I wish we could, but I'm being realistic) jamie_john's attitude would mean that we would never turn to trying to help others abroad.

In fact, taken to its logical conclusion, jamie_john's arguement would suggest that until we each feel that our own lives are utterly perfect, there is no need to give a t0ss about anyone else's life at all.

I feel that conquering poverty in the UK and doing so in Africa are not two mutually exclusive tasks.  I don't see why we can't work on both at the same time.

There are many celebrities who endorse UK charities, and I don't think that Bono and Bob and Midge (who does all the work but seems to get forgotten) (I'm not trying to sound like I'm friends with them, I just can't be bothered with surnames - which would have been quicker to type than this explanatory note!!!) are doing any harm in trying to bring political attention to the plight of Africans.

Yes the bombings brought our attention sharply back home and that is only right.  But money and political campaigning won't stop terrorist attacks on the UK (see my views here if you're interested).  However, political campaigns MAY help Africa, and if they don't they won't have made it worse.

PHEW!!! :-)

"I totally agree with poverty"!!??
Indeed mycatis!!!!   I'd spotted that and am looking forward to hearing jamie_john's explanation of that one.  I'd say it's probably a typo, but given the rest of his "question"......

thanx chriswood8, at least someone agrees with me and i agree with you when you said would they help us? NO, they wouldnt! our country too busy lookin at what goin on in other countries when ours is slowely bein taken advantage of! its not our fault that their country cant pay the money back that they owe! what i ment was bono dont like playin live on tv coz they cant edit their show, CRAP! and the other thing i meant was i agree with helping povert but look after your country first! and yes i do buy the big issue its a good magazine and im lookin after our own first! Thank You to all you people who cant see what going on in our country and who would rather solve problems overseas! Stupid people!

Did you read ANYTHING posted up here!?!  Seriously - did you?

Did you not see the comments about how we can't cure poverty in this country so we may as well work on both problems at once.

If you're ever ill, do you think it would be fair if the doctors refused to treat you until they'd made sure that all their own family were in perfect health?

Did you read my comments about following your ideas to their logical conclusion?

Or did you just choose to read what suited you because you're too short-sighted to see beyond your own doorstep?
