I wish we could go back to the days of beautiful songs and beautiful singers like this. Can you imagine any of today's singers appearing on TV with no make-up?!

Ah memories !! Loved that when it came out !
Funnily enough, I was sitting in a hotel shuttle bus in South Africa yesterday and the radio was playing Lou Rawles (You`ll never find etc). I remembered that song from the long hot summer of 1976 and I was trying to think of other songs from that time. The Dorothy Moore one was one of the best from those days (along with Candy Statton) A fantastic song - takes you right back, doesn`t it?
Can't see many of todays songs still doing the rounds in 30-40 years time!

I must go on YouTube again and find Candy Statton now (I've never heard of her... I find YouTube very addictive.
Candy Statton was fab
it can make you quite nostalgic listening to the songs you played in your youth.
Question Author
Yes, it does. Nostalgia makes me sadder, than it does happy. :-(
The thing about the music that was around at that time is that it was so beautiful. The singers had fantastic voices and the songs were love songs that will endure. Singers don`t "do" love songs anymore

I agree with you. Here is another beautiful love song from the same era

Of course they will.

They probably said the same about Frank Sinatra in the 40s, Elvis Presley in the 50s and the Beatles in the 60s.

Music is still being played from those eras and music from this era will be played in 30 years time.
Marijn - I can't listen to that song without visualizing that waterfall scene from Play Misty For Me!
that summer (76) was all about the real thing and the miracles for me, crazy crazy year, i drove everywhere in a white xj6 and the 8track blasted out some fab stuff, can't imagine where it all went now,

cupid: "Can't see many of today's songs still doing the rounds in 30-40 years time"

I remember my grandparents said that to me 40 years ago when I was listening to Candi Staton, Lou Rawls, Dorothy Moore....

I think music is more a disposable commodity these days but I still think some of today's songs will still be remembered in 30 years time as everyone remember songs from their teenage years. I am convinced that in 30-40 years some 50-60 year men and women will leap around the dancefloor at weddings when Mr Brightside comes on.

I hope I'm still around in 30-40 years to see if people still remember some of the great music that's still around now.

Thanks to everyone for your answers. I feel that today's singers can't be natural or who maybe they'd like to be as they're too manufactured. In the 70s, singers were able to go on TV without make-up, wearing what they wanted to wear and be who they wanted to be, and we loved them for it. Would the Pogues get groomed within an inch of their lives these days? I preferred Cher with her crooked teeth, all her ribs and her funny face. I hate perfection! Can we go back to loving people for who they are, warts and all :-)
Make up didn't do Alice Cooper and The Sweet any harm in the 70s, though Marjin, and there were manufactured groups in the 60s and 70s, but overall I agree that image is more important now.Image is still not everything, and there are still some very talented artists who are successful without being made up or relying on TV coverage.
Question Author
Yes, you're right. Let's look on Mr Brightside. All is not lost. :-)
sweet voice. In fact, I don't care about the appearance of the singers unless she is too beautiful. Otherwise, all of them are the same to me.
