I have never bought music for myself. Now that's weird.
But the first record I remember clearly being played was my brother's, one christmas, was 'Down Town' by Petula Clark.
And an LP of My Fair Lady that my dad had.

(which is a whole lot cooler then the first one I had bought for me, which was a smurfs album)
Bought along with record player, LP "In Dreams" by Roy Orbison.

but the first record we owned was "Heartbreak Hotel" by Elvis, smuggled in from New Zealand.
I can't remember, too long ago, in the 50's, but it would have been a 78rpm. I
remember, I think, the only record my mum bought for herself, probably out with me, was Harry Belafonte..Mary's Boy Child. Her name was Mary!

head....I don't like mondays was banned in the states and I had to smuggle in a dozen copies when visiting my cousin in California......
