With this countries global music pedigree past and present, and this is the best we can come up with ?! Its to curlingly cringeworthy rubbish
Irrespective of what you think of the EuroSong contest (its utter tripe and garbage) surely if we are going to enter it then lets not totally embarrass ourselves with this dire song.
EH was/is a decent at best singer , hes sold enough ! but hes no Frank Sinatra,Tony Bennet etc etc but hes now 75 and the vid is so tacky he looks exactly like he is 75 !, made up and he still looks 75.
How much worse can it get ?

The only sensible way to treat this farcical "contest" is to intentionally (yes, yes I know I am splitting an infinitive) enter a song so incontestably dire and banal that it accrues zero points.
At least that would be some sort of achievement.
Judging by what does sometimes win, I do not think it is sufficiently bad even to do that successfully.

Euro-pop is nowhere near as diverse and sophisticated as ours - as anyone who has enjoyed European radio and hotel caberet will testify. It's why the UK is a leading force in the world of pop music.
So pitched to a Eurovision jury, the song has to be simple, nice one-syllable words for easy memory for those for whom English is not their first language.
Europeans are not at all ageist with their pop stars, check out the millions of units still shifted by people like Johnny Halliday and Charles Aznavour, so Eng's age is not an issue either.
Add in a nice simply non-threatening melody which suits the blandness of Eurovision taste, and I think you have a real contender here.

I don't think that it is as bad as I was expecting - true the words are as corny as Kansas in August but the tune is pleasant if uninspiring.
Engelbert still sings a damn sight better than many a third of his age which is a relief considering the noise that some older contestants on the various talent shows make.
My preference in music is largely baroque/classical but I would rather listen to this than anything Jedward might produce or the offerings from some other countries of late.

Just watched the Swedish one...makes ours look like it was written by a chimp.
However its not all good the Swedish song takes nearly a minute to get to tempo and then loses its momentum far too often for a pop/dance song, so whilst it will trounce us i dont think it will do that well.
Ours is truly dire and is an embarrassment to our great history in pop music and song writing
