mine are, "the scientist" by coldplay and "hurt" performed by johnny cash

Well Seal!, when I am depressed or sad I always try to listen to a cheery song to try and snap myself out of it.  So I tend to listen to Crowded House (no comments please!!) - and sing at the top of my voice (OK, again no comments please!!) - that always makes me feel better!

Leftfield 'Swords'.

This will sound stupid, no doubt, but mine is "Puff, the Magic Dragon."  At the end of the song where Puff comes out of his cave to wait for Jackie Paper...but Jackie has grown up and no longer comes to play with Puff...and Puff starts to cry....well, that whole scenario is so pathetic to my depressed mind (on sad occasions) that I cry right along with Puff.

Pretty much anything by Leonard Cohen is guaranteed to sap any will to live I have left when I'm depressed.

Home by Michael Buble, or something by Nina Simone
oh and "Steven's last night in town" by Ben Folds Five - cheers me up!
anything by David Gray?

I know exactly what you mean, seal! and it's a really good question. If I'm upset over a girl, (like now!) then Dry Your Eyes by The Streets is always good. Blinded By The Light (also by The Streets) can easily warp my mind if I'm feeling depressed as can Climbing Up The Walls by Radiohead. In fact, when I'm really down, I turn off the lights, lie flat on my back on the floor, close my eyes, and play Climbing Up The Walls really loud. I can get lost completely and then imminent reality (i.e. the end of the song) is horrible.

Another good lose-yourself song is Flugufrelsarinn by Sigur Rs. Most of their album, with tracks like Svefn-G-Englar, Starlfur and gtis Byrjun, has the capacity to provoke either elation or depression if you're in the right (or wrong?) mood.

My Immortal (the band orchestral version rather than the plain orchestral version) by Evanescence can also stir me.

And if I really want to cry, then I listen to Portugese Love Theme by Craig Armstrong.

Sorry if this post sounds a bit... weird. Not my usual style, but then not my usual self.

If you've been treated badly by a bloke then nothing beats 'You're No Good'  by Betty Everett.  Turn it up ladies and sing. . . . . .

If I want to wallow in self pity then it is Crestfallen by Smashing Pumpkins.

If I want to fight back it is Rags to Rags by Eels.

If I want to force myself to cheer up then Beautiful Day by U2 or This is the Day by The The.

Seventeen by Janis Ian

Siouxsie & The Banshees - Icon

The Cranberries - Linger

The Rolling Stones - Wild Horses

Good Year for the Roses by Elvis Costello.

In my Life by The Beatles.

Walking On Air by O.M.D. dont know why its about a break up also if I want to calm down Howard Jones,s 12" mix of Hide and Seek ( lets chill man )
joy division-love will tear us apart,
u2-with or without you
portishead-give me a reason
staind-been a while,
en vogue-dont let go
guns and roses-dont cry or november rain
the smiths-how soon is now,any of these hit the spot for me every time!!!

Hurt by The Manhattans

Kiss And Say Goodbye by The Manhattens

Mr Lonely by Bobby Vinton

All timeless classics.....

if i want to stay sad i'll play the dance-garth brooks

if i want a pick me up beasty boys!

MacArthur Park, Richard Harris version. Don't kick me, lol. Why is that song so universally hated?? I love it and Richard Harris was a stud, too.
