On Chris Evans this week he's playing Danny Baker's (big mate) Desert Island Discs choices from I think last week. The song today was I've grown accustomed to her face (My Fair Lady - Rex Harrison sung/said it). I didn't catch who it was so have just looked it up and to my surprise it was Bernard Cribbins. It was sung so nicely that I would never have thought it was his voice (only used to Right said fred!) Did anyone else manage to hear it?

I did - and i was similarly surprised.

Apparently DB's choicces were all records he had heard before he was six years old - because that is the music that formed him into the person he is today.

I have always been a great admirer of DB, he is a fantastic writer.

I'll admit I had little time for Danny Baker - remembering the silly drunkeness with Chris Evans and the awful Paul Gascoinge - but I'm very glad he's on the mend after the recent illness. I haven't read anything that he has written. But I see from Amazon that he has an autobiography out later in the year. Does he write for a magazine?
I don't know who he writes for now - he used to write for, and went on to edit the NME - and he was fabulous then.

I believe he has a radio show - maybe on Radio London, but not sure - I know he has done loads of football-related material on radio, including Radio 2's '6-0-6' programme, and hopefully he will continue to do more.

i am sure his autobiography will be wonderful - he wrote better as a beginner than i do now after thirty-plus years at it, and he can only have got better - as have I, but i will never catch him up - or Stuart Maconie who is in a higher division altogether!
ah yes, a big fan of the maconie!
I heard the programme and i found him very interesting. The memory of that awful late night chat show is fading...

As for Bernard Cribbins, i saw him in a musical at the blackpool grand a few years ago. A cole porter....can't remember the name if it! Anything goes? Anyway, he was FABulous! A wonderful voice.
