I LOVE "Silver Machine", but that's all I've ever heard by Hawkwind.

I've been contemplating going to see them play live for several years as I've read that their stage show is quite weird/entertaining (circus acts/freaks) but, for one reason or another, I've never got round to it.

Can anyone please tell me......................

1. if "SM" is representative of any of their other stuff, i.e. if I like that then I'll like more of their songs

2. Are they good live?

3. Is their stage show as weird as I've read?

They are rather old now (dave brock must be mid-60's?)and don't forget that Lemmy (Motorhead) actually sang Silver Machine and he left the band more than 30 years ago.

Silver machine is probably a bit more straight ahead rock than most of their stuff which is a bit more psychedelic.

I saw them in 1984 and the sax player (Nik Turner?) played the whole gig in a mauve catsuit with a lightbulb in the end of his sax, then took a banana out of the (crotch?) of the catsuit at the end of the gig and ate it.

Hell, yeah.....go and see them at least once before either you or they die!!

Just don't do it sober!

Yeah, I knew Lemmy sung "SM".

As for "not going to see them sober"..........................I don't drink! :o)

They were the first band i saw using laser beams..or was it the drugs? No it was lasers..very entertaining they were too but that was almost 25 years ago

Thanks
There's some video footage of them playing the Astoria in 2005 here:

I saw them play a festival many years ago and they were awesome. Not sure if they put quite so much effort in these dats.

Thanks for that
Hey there,

I went to see them years ago (I think it was 1980something). I remember it was a visual treat, but that's about all because I was not sober. So, I think you should go because
1: You shall remember it - being sober.
2: You have been contemplating it for years.

Hope you enjoy!!
