When I was younger (a long time ago now) an old chap used to sing this song which he said came from the music halls. It was about a man who left home to find work, his parents wrote to him asking for money so they wouldn't end up in the workhouse. The first few lines went.
Johnny was a trier for work theres no doubt. Around London town there was no work about
So he packed up his troubles and went far away
Till one day in aletter a note came to say

Does anyone know this song
