I have a driveway that will hold 10 cars. Most of the time i have 6 cars parked on my drive. My husband is in the motor trade so we drive a different car each week. All of the cars are registered to either myself or him but i have been told by the council that i cannot park that many cars on my drive. They will not tell me how many cars i can park but have said that if we are caught trading from the drive which we arent then we will face a 20k fine. How can this be right if one of us owns all of the cars

gouldc - at no time has dlp said the vehicles are advertised for sale.

She has stated they are parked on the drive and used in a private capacity only.
Ethel - quite right, I should have worded my response more clearly!

What I meant was that perhaps the neighbours and council have considered that new legislation as they suspect the vehicles could all be for sale.

Didn't mean to suggest that dlp was selling the cars!
at the end of the day if they own all the cars and are not trading from the house then they can do whatever they want with their own driveway, too many folk on here quick to point the finger too quickly. the council cannot stipulate what you do with your own land if they are abiding by all the laws
these pain in the a r s e old farts that slink around behind their curtains spying on folk every day. nosey old b a s t a r d s!!!whats it got to do with them??
I suppose having a business carried on next door in a supposedly residential area would affect the value of their property, david? If they're wrong, they're wrong; but it does have something to do with them.

Just to let you all know i have spoken to the council today and they have told me that they have run checks on the cars on my drive and have found that all of them are legally allowed to be there. i am very happy about this as i lost a lot of sleep last night worrying.

than you for the later replys to this thread all of you were very helpful xx
What a relief that must be!!! Glad to hear things are in your favour and you now have peace of mind.
Good on you blp

Go buy another too, that'll get the curtains twitching
haveonly just seen this thread but glad its sorted now. a lot of people on here like to judge others and can be rude and quite nasty.

thank you Gem - we do work hard and the only reason i posted on here in the first place is because it came up on a search engine when i was trying to find out what my actual rights are. If i had known the level of abuse i would receive i wouldnt have bothered. If i was a sensitive person i would have got quite upset with the comment 'people like you make me sick' i really dont think that was justified. Anyway its all sorted now xx
Glad to see that it is all sorted now. Had a friend who dealt in cars, and the council said he could not do that from his own home. He said he was not dealing from his own home, but he was. He was caught out by the large stickers in the windscreen, which he left in the cars night and day. How stupid did he think the council was.

My advice to you is never ever leave Pricing Boards (or whatever they are called) in the cars whether they are displayed or not. This could be used as evidence that you are "selling" the cars from your own home. I beleive you, unlike some of the other ABers on here, who think you are fiddling. By the way that is not the largest private collection of cars in the word anyway.
I had neighbours that moved now , but in the nineties/ 2000 onwards, wer "buiding kit car probably for thier own pleasure"..but it was angle grinders, bashing ,hammering on the front drive for six months,......out of every 12. it was a semi detached, house ,..... so I used music playing thru the walls ,as a reminder to them....they stopped KIt kar building , i continued with the noise , they approached me why i had continued, "playing loud music"..... my reply was if they "had aproblem with loud music then they should approach a solicitor / or who ever "...... ok in this case , they moved.........my point is in this case "i ung the lets make a bit of noise tactic out".......... their family became disjointed ........ a departed from the street.....iam a pikey , i do as i likey .....
