driving without insurance (but not aware)

my original car that ime insured on was in the garage, now my dad who was also insured asked the garage if he had a replacement car for a couple of days as my car was going to be kept in the garage for a few days.
whats happened is ive been pulled up by cops and they have said that ime not insured because there is an over 25 years old policy and have issued me with a producer, i know ime going to be in trouble but what am i looking at a ban, fine or both.
can someone please help me out
