Careless driving conviction

I had a car accident a month ago. No-one else was involved. I slid on some mud on the road and hit a tree, i only received minor injuries and an ambulance was called. The police also arrived.
Without going into detail, I do not feel the accident was my fault. I have received a letter from a Driver Improvement Scheme saying the police believe they have sufficient evidence to prosecute me for dangerous driving, or i can go on a course. The letter says that if I do not feel I am to blame, not to 'choose' the option of the course. I don't know what to do. Has anyone else been through this?

The police believe you are guilty of dangerous driving.

You have two choices - admit that you were driving dangerously and go on the course.

Or if you believe you were not driving dangerously, plead not guilty and go to court.

I would do the course.

Sorry, it is not dangerous driving, but careless driving the letter says I could be prosecuted with. Not sure if that makes any difference? Thanks for any comments or advice.
So if you had done the same but killed 5 cyclists it would not have been your fault?

The police obviously think it was your fault and are offering you an easy way out and a bit of extra training to make the roads slightly safer for all of us.

Take it.
Take the course.

If it was careless driving it probably revolves around the fact that you did not adjust your driving to the road conditions ( mud on road ) and take appropriate steps by slowing down etc and avoiding your slide.
