Hi. I am aware that the word pelican in pelican crossing comes from the pseudo-acronym pedestrian light controlled crossing, but can anybody tell me how toucan crossings (which include a cycle crossing) and puffin crossings (like pelican but looks different) get their names ? Thanks.

I suspect the name came first and the acronym composed around it.
I heard the "two can" explanation as well.
