Hi all. A friend has a 1996 Honda CRX ESi and the ABS light has come on and won't go off. Has anyone any idea why this has happened and what can be done to rectify it.

The car has had new brake pads etc.

Thanks for any help.

Either one or more sensors needs cleaning, or one or more sensors need to be replaced.
I recommend checking and cleaning the sensors first.
Prepare yourself for a shock - ABS sensors (new) for Hondas cost over £150 each ( at least they do for my 1996 Accord).
You can get second hand ones for about £30 or so, but they are pretty scarce and very difficult to...

One common ABS fault is a broken wheel-sensor wire.

Thanks for your quick replies. I'll let my friend know your suggestions.
Correct ... as above.
Whoever fitted the new pads and the "etc" whatever that is could have damaged the sensors or sensor pick up rings.
cable, more likely.
One other thought - the ABS warning light should come on when you start up. It goes through a diagnostic system check and then goes out after a few seconds. This means the ABS system is OK. If the light then comes on when you start moving at more than a few mph, then it is a sensor problem.
Ever occurred to anyone there may be an actual problem with the ABS? Have you 'tried' it, say in an empty carpark?
