My Golf has been coming up with errors recently and 3 diagnostics test suggested the MAP sensor needed replacing. However, my mechanic, who is my brothers friends (which means he won't rip me off) told me that is very often the fault that is registered when actually it is nothing to do with the MAP sensor. The problem with my car might have been different to yours but he suggested a throttle part just needed a good clean. Although it has been absolutely fine since it just has a good service.

Milly thanks for the advice, the mechanic did say that the diagnostic reading wasn't showing a fault but when the error codes came up the error for the map sensor wouldn't clear??Not entirely sure what this means but he did say he was concerned that it wasn't the map sensor as the results were not 100 and that he could fit it and find it wasn't the problem,,hence the reason why he rang and gave me the part number etc and said that he would still fit it even if i could find elsewhere cheaper.I don't think he's trying to rip me off or he wouldn't have told me this.My car had a full service in Nov also so should all be tip top so to speak!Thank you for the links Buenchico and toureman now going to have a hunt
try CAS 01480 434644 or Andrew Page 01733 340177 - they should be able to
help. M(anifold) A(bsolute) P(ressure) sensor will only take a few moments to change, however remember to erase the learned data ( be careful ) in the ECU once it's installed - or pull the PCM BAT fuse of disconnect the battery.= etc
