I drove a Tercel Toyota 4by4 estate car some years ago . It was a smallish estate and looked like an ordinary car.
My present car Corolla estate is perfect but is pretty useless in snow. I would therfore like to replace it with a four door small estate or hatchback with a 4 by 4 but all the present 4 by 4s are built like tanks.
Does anyone make an ordinary manual petrol 4by4 ?

Try a Fiat Panda 4x4
But my money would be on a Suburu
A Subaru Impreza Hatchback 2.0 litre. Mine's been fantastic in this snow.
Even Skyline's are fun in the snow : )
I meant safe and steady.
Right .. ok .. That's me told : )
Lol.
Suzuki Ignis
Fiat Panda
Subaru Forester

Thanks for your suggestions I'm retired , rarely carry passengers but like a bit of room in the back for carrying bags of compost , growbags , bags of sharp sand etc. and I prefer a flat loading surface like on an estate as opposed to having to lift these up and over in a hatchback ..
I don't like 2 door cars of any sort . Which of your suggestions fit these basic requirements .
One other thing I like a proper spare wheel . Some cars now have ether a thin spare or a tube of gunk to inject . A
Suzuki Jimny is a good small 4x4, done well in offroad tests too!
Panda 4x4 from Fiat is superb.

The Fiat Panda 4×4 has been mentioned several times but do they do an Estate version . ?
I want to avoid lifting . I use an estate so that I can slide anything heavy into a wheelbarrow.
You can't do that with a Hatchback. Maybe I could build a low platform and put that in a hatchback to bring the floor up to give an estate like platform.

I've been onto Google but no one seems to show the inside rear view so I can't see if any of your suggestions has a flat platform .
Which Google did you use? http://www.fiat.co.uk/showroom/?id=4038

Click the 'Interior' tab, then the 'Boot Space' one.

Click on interior and then boot space at the bottom

the panda 4x4 is a cracking little car, but probably not suitable for your requirements.

how about a subaru impreza or legacy station wagon
