When i eventually manage to get this nut off of my exhaust manifold, the nut is not going to be in a fit state to use again, where can i get a replacement bolt, do i need to get an identical bolt or can use one of the same size but different style?

Nut or bolt?
Question Author
Errr, the ones i have already got out which are the same are studs with sections of thread on and a nut on the top, although i have a feeling the nut might be attached to the stud somehow. :-/ it is definitely a nut on top though because there is a small section of thread above it and below it.
Question Author
hope that makes sense.
Easiest way to get them out if WD40 doesn`t work is to heat them up first.
Remove the nut by the usual method and you can get one the same size almost anywhere, free probably from a scrap yard
Question Author
how ill heating help, sorry for all the questions, im just curious because i thought heat would make it expand and therefore be more difficult to get out. :-/ where would i find a replacement stud/nut once i remove it?
Question Author
will*
The mechanics next door to my old workshop always used to heat any manifold nuts that wouldn`t budge, I don`t think you can use any old nuts or bolts to replace them, modern nuts and bolts are metric, I think the old ones are imperial or whitworth
1, You don't use WD40, you use nut release fluid.

2.. If it's a stud don't heat it up, that will make it harder to get out.

3. if it's a nut then heating it up will expand it so it will be looser.

4. Why can't you say what make of vehicle it is so we can help?
go to the dealer of your make of car and get a replacement stud and nut, it will only be coppers, if you used a 13mm socket to remove the others it will be 8mm nuts and studs.
If its a bolt, heat up the manifold and block around the bolt. If its a nut buy a nut splitter from Halfords. For a replacement nut go to the main dealer.

it's a rover 214 if that makes any difference, thanx for all your answers

I managed to get the bolt of using a 9/16 socket, a hammer and a bit of persuasion, thanx for all your answers. :-)
Nut is female and bolt is male

Work it out :-)
Question Author
i know the difference, it is just that the bolt/nut i was trying to get out is kind of a stud with a nut on the end which makes it look like a bolt, it's weird, but i know what i mean lol.
