I bought a second hand mitsubushi challenger from a garage i drove it for about 15 motorway miles when it broke down no transmission, my aa relay returned it to the garage concerned who eventually said it was the clutch and repaired it, on the day i was to pick it up the called me and said I had caused this problem and as a good will gesture they would go 50/50 on the cost somewhere in the region of £495.00, the vehicle had a 3 month warranty on it which is not being used, the garage owner said i had caused the clutch to burn out due to riding the clutch in just 15 miles can anyone advise me

they are trying it on mate, stick up for your rights. You've got a warranty for fluffs sake
With respect William, if you are daft enough to except their statement you deserve to be ripped off, they are taking the psssss, offer no 50/50 or anything towards the cost of the repair there is no-way that clutch would have burnt out in that length of journey, do not take this as an offence comment but you should have summed up the length of travel when you got the motor into gear, just on a point did you or anyone check this motor out before buying? take some advice if you are not well up on the mechanics get someone to check this motor out before you get lumbered with more problems.

hi thanks for your answers
i bought the car from a garage near the m5 at tewksbury and it seemed ok until i tried to overtake a lorry on the motorway i was doing about 60 then the clutch started to slip as i accelerated I had to pull on the hard shoulder then id lost the drive I have contacted consumer direct theyt said i should be able to get my money back as it was not fit for purpose but the garage wrote to me and said consumer direct told them they were right and to hold the car and my money until i pay half the cost I was hoping someone on here had a similar problem and could advise me how they proved you could burn a clutch out in that distance

sorry should read could not burn a clutch out in a short distance
Hi William, these B@SDS are trying to take the psssssss, I would offer them the chance to put this right, if not contact Trading Standards, the AA, RAC, Whoever that will give this garage some bad publicity, do not let the grass grow under your feet with this the quicker you see someone the better, can you contact the last owner? if so see whet they have to say about this car. Good Luck.
