I've heard that Kia does not make its own engines, instead rebadges other makes' into their cars, if this is true, which company's engine is it using?

Kia is owned by Hyundai.  The two share platforms and engines, with Hyundai cars moving up market and Kia cars taking up the lower end of the spectrum.

Skids is right, Kia is now owned by Hyundai - they were taken over about 3 years ago. However, before that the cars - particularly the Kia Pride - were based on Mazdas. The Pride was the old Mazda 121; the Mentor a rebodied Mazda 323.

Has both; not bad cars if all you want is cheap transport - and I believe they're getting better. But depreciation is crippling! Good if you're planning to keep the car and 'run it into the ground' but if you want to change every couple of years, you'll get hit hard.
