my aunt and uncle are in a bit of a pickle.

They use thier sons address, in the uk, which is where they stay the most when over here, for stuff to do with their car. Because on their driving licence, they have to have a british address, they can't use their cypriat address as the dvla won't accept it, and even though (i'm pretty sure) that cyprus is in the eu, they can't apply for a cypriat driving licence.

Has anyone else had this problem, and what did they do.

Also, ey can't vote in either country. They have legally moved to the greek part of cyprus and can no longer vote for the english governemnt, but cannot vote in cyprus either . . .
If they have a driving license from Cyprus why can't they use it here?
It's 'Cypriot' not cypriat.
Why can't they exchange their licence for a Cyprus one?

Question Author
Cyprus won't give them one because they can still use their english one, but the dvla won't accept a foreign address, so have to use their sons address.
Question Author
I don't know the exact details of what they've been told but what i've said is what they told us.
Nonsense. Cyprus has an exchange scheme on a like for like basis.
Question Author
perculiar, They tried putting their new address on their licence when they moved, but couldn't so had to use their sons address.
They can't put a Cyprus addres on a UK licence, they have to exchange it for a Cyprus licence.
Where do the insurance company think they live?
Question Author
i don't know about their insurance . . . they're trying to sort it out, i dont know why they can't have a cypriat licence.
Since May 2004 all EU citizens living as residents in Cyprus are legally entitled to vote in certain Cypriot elections, specifically Local Municipal Elections and European Parliamentary Elections.

An EU citizen may also stand as a candidate in Municipal and European Parliamentary elections under the same conditions a Cypriot national.

Voters have to register, once registered they are submitted to compulsory voting as are Cyprus citizens.
As sandyWroe says, it's Cypriot not cypriat.
I think they either need a Cypriot licence with a Cypriot address or a UK licence with a UK address.
A British citizen normally resident (i.e. for more than 6 months of the year) in another country who applies for or renews a GB driving licence using a false address commits an offence.

Furthermore, on the issue of voting rights, every British citizen living abroad who has been registered to vote in the UK within the last 15 years is eligible to vote in UK general elections and European Union elections (but not UK local government elections), however to do so they must register as an overseas voter.
Question Author
maybe its because they haven't been there long and haven't registered.

Maybe like bol, its to do with the medical side of things, both of them take quite a few tablets a day.

They haven't been there that long, and because they had to live with their son between selling their english house and moving into cyprus, they're saying that thats their second home.
