not a lot of diference, depends on the size of car though. its on long journeys that diesel really becomes more economical
Question Author
Either 1.6 petrol or 1.5 diesel
1.5 diesel
you wouldn't notice much diference unless you were doing a lot of miles and the extra cost of buying a diesel car would probably override that saving anyway so its all about what you prefer

Diesel every time. More reliable, less ignition probs and you can run it on cooking oil if the diesel runs out!! (so I'm reliably informed!)
Diesel engines are for ships, railway locomotives, lorries and fire engines.

Cars should be powered by a petrol engine.

"Diesel engines are for ships, railway locomotives, lorries and fire engines."

And Le Man winning race cars!

Diesel is the fuel of satan!
Why does every thread on here get taken over by muppets talking crap?
best you stay away then telepn0ne!
Yes, chuck, and Formula One cars are powered by petrol engines revving at 19,000rpm developing over 700bhp. But nobody would put one of those into a Ford Escort.

However, my post was somewhat tongue in cheek and I'm sure that there are some very good diesel powered cars.

Sorry to appear as a muppet talking crap. I wasn't aware that a bit of levity now and then was prohibited.
I have 2 diesel cars. Both do around 15 - 20 thousand a year. If you do less than 12,000 per annum, go for petrol. Diesel engines are killed by continually doing short journeys.

As an aside, I agree with those who have mentioned the clowns that post answers on here, who have nothing better to do than put asinine remarks and resort to using bad language. They must lead dreadfully boring lives.
For short journeys, you could try legs. Very economical, non-polluting, and can last 80 years or more.
Better still .. Buy something like a 1.2 Clio and save on fuel, insurance and tax too!
New Judge is right.

I drive diesel lorries and buses for a living. Diesel is excellent for that purpose.

I would never even think of owning a diesel car. It's just wrong wrong wrong.
Diesels do not like short journeys. No probds if you go for a good burn up at the weekend.
My Octavia 2.0TDI does over 50 to the gallon and I do not use it much.
Trouble is on the rare occasions I go to a garage the diesel price has shot up!
