today while driving, a noise began coming from the area of the glovebox/engine area...we thought an animal such as a rat or bird was scrabbling around in the engine area or somehting, because it stopped and started, and was very random sounds...no repetitive noises etc...when we stopped and i looked there was no animal.

the engine seemed fine - no steam. smoke etc

any ideas what this could be?

thanks

My wifes Matiz has been known to pick up a leaf now and again which gets caught in the heater fan and makes a noise like you describe. Luckily it is dead easy to remove the fan on a Matiz.
Hi Joko, lift up your bonnet & look in the direction of the N/S glove box area, look where the windscreen meets the bulkhead within the wiper arms ( Where they rest) are there any leaves present? is the drain hole clear? you may have water trapped within that area that may cause the sound you refer to.
