i have a rover 200 automatic when i start it up it makes a noise like a diesel car a rattle till it gets warmed then its fine any ideas to what it could be

I have the same model of car which makes the same noise & has done for several years. The noise is a design fault so I have been told, caused by the sole- plate vibrating on the base of the gearbox. A very expensive rattle to put right, get a set of earplugs -- much cheaper
