My son's Ford Focus seems to be leaking oil from underneath. His mate had a look and said it could be the sump - any advice ?????????

Thanks darren - thats helpful.
Park the car overnight with newspaper underneath. You should be able to tell exactly where the oil is coming from the following day.
Worse case it could be the sump rusting through. Had the one on our old KA give out.

Graham - Sun, Mirror or Daily Mail - which one ?

No only joking !! my son has actually been putting a washing up bowl underneath.
could be a number of things, timing seal, front or rear sump seal , im fairly sure its an alloy sump so that rules out rust unless its cracked, ie going over speed bumps tp fast. If it is alloy im sure its a sealer not a gasket, sump plug washer would be a slight drip certainly not requiring a bowl.
The other thing you need to consider depending where its leaking is wether its contaminating the timing belt, it will fail if left for to long !!!...
