My daughter has a Ford Focus 2002 and the drivers window has stopped working. Can anyone advise of the most common cause, any fuse location or any advice on where to look for the fault? Also, any link to a site showing the window circuit might also be useful Many thanks C G

Hi, is it only the drivers door? if so, you have a connection or motor problem, can you hear the motor in motion? if so its either the inner cable slipping or if no motor sounds the motor, between the door when open where the hinges are there should be a connecting plug, try undoing this plug insert some WD40 into the connectors and retry. on a point, are there any dead ( Safety) switches on the window system? has someone switched it on? your fuses will be on your cars handbook. ( Do not look around these with the Ign on)

TWR, what a nice comprehensive reply, thank you, you obviously know a lot about these things. I will try the tests that you advise and will be causious to ensure that the ignition is off when checking the fuses.

Hopefully, it is not too difficult to change the motor if that turns out to be the problem.

Thank you again, much appreciated G G
Hi, no, it's not a big job to replace the motor, I have a feeling that your trouble will only be a Connection Problem. "if " it turns out to be the motor, before you start the Job purchase approx a Doz plastic door card clips as the do tend to snap on removal of the door card (Panel) Tools needed, Torx screw driver ( Size unknown) Philips screw driver, plenty of patience if you start getting wound up, LEAVE IT and retry later. when the door panel is removed you face a plastic inner cover, raise this up be careful of the compound the use to stick this plastic cover in place, it gets everywhere, before you start the job AGAIN try the electric motor for movement, also put a test light on the connectors from the window switch if there is currant coming down the switch id OK, does the car have a duel window switch? What I mean by that, can the drivers window be opened from the passenger side? if so try the window again, again as said, check ALL your connections before the final ( removing the motor & window Me-ch) you may find that the assembly comes as one complete unit, IF that is the case & money is tight / short which ever way you want to call it, try EBay, 247 car spares, it will explain what details they need, Eg, Year, which side, front or rear, do not go to the agent before you search as you will pay the rip off dealer prices.

TWR Thanks again for the additional information, I'm now confident that I can have a good try at fixing the drivers side window. I have copied and pasted all of your guidance to a word doc and printed it so that I can keep it by my side when I have a go at it. The info about where to buy the part is also very useful. My daughter is away for a couple of weeks but as soon as she returns, I'm going to have a go.

Thanks for all your expert advice

Best regards C G
ive had the same problem on a 2007 focus cabriolet i fixed it and the repair lasted for six months ,but today i bought a new one and when i got it the clips for the window were in the highest position so i fitted it and and it would on move about a millimetre, so i presumed it needed to be in a different position so i unscrewed the motor housing and then twisted it till the clips for the window were in the lowest position laid it on the floor connected the cables then pressed the door switch it went half way upi then stopped so i thought it must be in the wrong position still so i reopened the motor housing and changed the position of the window clips again and from then on i couldn't get it to move at all.
i know the old motor brushes were worn out ive looked on this new one and as you would expect everything is ...well new, but it wont work has anyone any ideas im still getting the click when i try too work it
