If I'm declaring a car for a SORN and reclaiming the outstanding road tax do I need to fill in a separate SORN declaration first (form V890) or is ticking the box on the tax reclamation form (V14) sufficient?

This wording appears in the V890 guidance notes:
"If you want to make a SORN declaration and also apply for a refund of vehicle excise duty, the form V14 should be used instead".

The important word there seems to be 'instead', rather than 'as well'. It would seem to imply that use of the V14 alone is sufficient.

If you want to be doubly certain, you can make a SORN declaration by phoning 0870 850 4444 or online, here:

Ahhh, apologies and thanks for your time Chris, I didnt scroll down that far on that form!

I was flummoxed (doesn't take much) by the V14 saying Only entitled to a refund if you have made a SORN for the vehicle and the vehicle has not been taxed within 21 days but then theres a box on the same form to put a cross in if you want a SORN :-S
