as a driver for many years,i am puzzled by other drivers behaviour!! especially at night and in bad weather, the majority drive with side lights or no lights.also i have noticed that we have more than ever young people riding their bikes on the road or on the pavements without lights and it beggars believe as they all seem to wear black or dark clothing.where one asks is the police,or do they just predend it doesent happen, or perhaps it would cause them endless paper work. What if a motorist ran them down? who would be blamed? of course the motorist. The other day i was driving to work and the rain was coming down in sheets. Hardly any of the vehicles coming in the opposite direction had any lights on atall and i am talking about lorries, vans, cars and , to crown it all motoring school cars. i would love one of these drivers to tell me why they dont put there lights on, As they say it costs nothing.

Why ask a boring question?.
Question Author
its life or death!!do you realize how that effects whole familys communities.loved ones ,children walking to school etc.if you think that is boring, your a sad individual?get a life!!
absolutely agree...also the number of cyclops vehicles who go around with only one functioning light at back and or front.

England - I would say this is a very valid question!

What really annoys me is when a car is travelling towards you & it seems that its lights are on full beam. You flash the driver to let them know, but then they flash you back - so the lights aren't on full beam at all. The lights are obviously set too high, maybe by the interior switch, so why don't they check them. Also, if the car is old enough for an MOT, the inspector should pick this up.

Are these the same folk who think it's helpful to put their fog lights on when it starts to rain?
jenky.....so agree with you.  hate all those tw@ts who drive around with their fog lights on all the time.  usually boy racers who seem to think it enhances the look of their Chavalier, disAstra etc.....
...blinding the rest of us in the process
On the subject of lights, its amazing how many people have issues with headlight settings, fog lamps etc and yet completely fail to notice a bike puling past them with its lights on. They'll then pull out on it with no warning, thus nearly booting me across the road and into oncoming traffic
That's because when we're being glared at by the foglights of a massive SUV that only gets used to transport madam to and from the beauty salon, we wouldn't see an elephant coming up behind us, let alone a bike!

Other things that annoy me are

  • cyclists with no helmets - was it not made law?
  • drivers who put fog lights on in rain - it just dazzles other drivers and is bad driving practice.

Its just ignorance and carelessness on their parts

HI CARDBOARD,ive noticed a lot of bike users that wear helmets and all the gear always use their lights.its the youngsters that weave on and of the pavement onto the road .yes i see them but it can be a bit scary at times.i also know that some drivers are oblivious to cycle riders.ive actually had a bike crash into my car on a rounabout!!and the cyclist said sorry but i was just relieved that she was okay.

Another annoyance, people who allow their children to roam around the back seat of their cars and even stand between the front passenger seats.Have these parents no sense!!

Have to agree, fog lights when not used correctly are annoying and dangerous. By the letter of the law it is actually deemed illegal to use them if it's not foggy.

wrt the high set lights - Most of the time it's down to excess weight in the back of the car i.e. Fat people in the back seats or heavy goods in the boot.

Since we're on the subject of driving pet hate, my biggest wind up is poor motorway driving. Like those idiots who sit in the middle lane when the inside lane is clear. Or even worse, the people who think they should be in the outside lane because they are doing 70mph or have an executive car.

hear hear, Ahmed about the motorway thing. I swear that there would be 50% less traffic jams on the motorway if people actually used the lanes properly.

the police were outside the local infant school the other day,Bunny. they were stopping mothers because their children did not have seat belts on. unbelievable?
I wouldn't even allow my dog to be in the car unrestrained, let alone my child.  these people are utterly ignorant of the dnagers on the road, but it's their children who may pay the price.  Glad the police took the action  they did near you Vinny100.
I think restraining a dog is a little OTT, and to mention cruel.
They should be allowed to hang their heads out of the window (especially at high speeds) so that they have the option of jumping out to attack cats if the situation arises.

my mate who worked in a garage years ago said the best time to go for an mot was saturday morning.most of them have got hangovers and cant be bothered to check the vehicle probably.can you believe it?
Another thing that costs nothing to the motorist vinny is SIGNALS.   We women are usually good at guessing what men think, but not when they are driving a car.   Sorry if I am being sexist but I have noticed its mostly the men who can't be bother signalling.
