my friend has a 2002 VE Golf, and there's a little switch on the top of the wiper stalk - she doesn't know what it's for - any ideas?

Dunno but i would guess you can use it to change the interval of the wiper swipe - my hubbies car can change if its raining too hard for intermittant but not hard enough for swish swish swish swish, you can make it swish .... swish...swish...swish
