Has anyone got any good recommendations for tyres?

I have to buy 2 for my Escort but with so many on the market its a difficult choice, I usually just throw on the cheapest I can find but now I have decided to opt for a more top end tyre.

I have 55 to spend on each tyre and my priorities are really wet handling & braking, dry handling/braking, road noise, wear...

Any help is appreciated

I recently put a pair of michelins on my peugeot , they're better in the wet than the cheap nasty things i had on but with enthusiastic driving they can easily loose grip and in the dry they sound like hollywood tyres LOL
I always buy part-worn tyres, which are great value. Often you can find ones which are almost new, and very good makes too. Ask them to show you what they've got in the size so you can take your pick.

I can't advise on which makes are best regarding handling, but these days I don't hare around like you seem to do LOL.
I used to hear that Nankang tyres were good, tehy use similar moulds to Yokohoma tyres.
