Possible upset tummy or something else?

My 6 month old baby has suddenly developed a need to poo for England! She doesnt seem to have an upset tummy but has already done 5 or 6 dirty nappies already today! She doesnt seem to be bothered but certainly is bothered by the rash it has caused.

As soon as I touch her with anything to clean her sore bottom, she screams and ends up in hysterics

I have tried to make an appointment with the doctor in the hope of getting a cream like Timodene (is they still do it) but I have to call back tomorrow at either 8am or 3pm to try and get an appointment for that day!

So that leaves me with two questions.
1) What can I do to help ease the agony she is experiencing when her nappy is changed (Ive gone to using warm water and cotton wool instead of babywipes and plastering her in Sudocrem)

2) What could possibly be causing so many dirty nappies in the first place? Her diet or routine hasnt changed. The only thing I can think of is maybe its a late reaction to going onto follow on milk? She has been on it about 3-4 weeks now and it is the same brand as her previous milk so shouldnt really have affected her. Not this far on anyway.

Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

Aww the poor love! As mamyalynne has said metanium is very good especially if its applied before bed to last all night. Through the day try and leave the nappy off for as long as possible (without getting poo everywhere!) this helps to get fresh air to the area.
I would ring back the doctors again and insist to see a doctor or a nurse who can prescribe today. If you are firm they usually back down I have found!
Teething can cause sore bums as well or it could just be an infection. Hope she gets better soon.
metanium is good as is egg white (if shes not alergic)

A reaction to the milk would come on pretty quickly, not 3-4 weeks later.

Is she dribbling and teething? Teething causes awful nappies, and very very sore bottoms as a result.

Have you tried her on any new foods within the last 24 hours? Or fruits?

Thanks everyone, we have taken the advice you have all given and bought some Metanium although it all seems to be getting better today anyway.

red, you have confirmed my suspicions about it being teething related. I knew a sore bottom is common with tetthing but wasnt sure if it would upset her tummy though. She is teething and already has two at the bottom, I guess this is the top ones making theyre way down!

Thanks again.
