I have a noise coming from somewhere around the steering column which sounds like someone rattling a locked door.....It occurs on a rough road surface and more worryingly -when I'm braking. Could it be suspension bushes???

Mine has the same problem, it appears to be common. It was suggested to me that it was the anti roll bar drop links. I changed them but its still the same. Another suggestion was a steering cloumn bush being oversize, but this appears to be a bigger job. It went through an MOT without anything obvious being found. But yes the noise on rough surfaces is very annoying!
i have the same problem on my corsa, a rattly type noise when you go over rough roads but i cant find anything worn on the suspension or steering, it goe sin for an mot in 4 weeks ill see if they find anything then
on the corsa one, is it possibly the steering coupling UJ,
i got a new one but never fitted it - but it was ok for the mot
