I was told yesterday by another motorist that my rear nearside brake light was out. Does this mean getting another bulb or the whole light fitting?
Any input welcome.

If you can't be constructive david1702198, then why do you bother? Your EGO won't let you I suppose.
Remove the strap across the light cluster in the boot, unscrew the plastic bolt, use your fingers as it's plastic, unclip the panel with the bulbs in, renew the broken bulb.
