vw polo 1996 overheating

Have problem with overheating on short round town journeys. No problem on long trips. Anyone got any ideas before I pay someone to fix it???

engine fan / switch / fuse ok?

Fan seems to be working ok.
try removing your thermostat and run it like that for a couple of days to see if it still does this..if it dosen't,it means that the said thermostat was sticking...simply replace with a new one.
