Since November last year my Vauxhall Vectra 1998-9 1.8 LS 16VALVE, has been in and out of a main Vauxhall Dealership with constant overing when coming to a halt and stationary, the rev counter actually reaches 1500-2000 revs at times, this is dangerous and is using unessacery fuel. I have spent a fortune trying to rectify this and have had to return to this main agent as repairs are under warrenty. I would also like to say that they have been given the riot act and they know how p----off I am.
Repairs and cleaning out of the throttle body have been done, i think and censors have been changed and a new idler valve fitted and heaven knows what else. This is a decent car regularly serviced and would like to hang onto it. Could anybody please assist in giving me more information as what the problem is, perhaps listing possible faults and remedies, The car is going in again after EAster and this is the final time as far as I am concerned and the Manager of this franchise is also pulling his hair out, well if they can't fix it who can!! Would appreciate any sensible advice, thanks.

hi costalot.
your problem by the sound of it is probably a fault in the ecu unit this is the electronic brain that runs the fuel injection system and verious other things.i had very similar symtoms as you discripe happen with my ford mondeo. i changed the ecu unit and everything was then fine.
My Astra did this and it was rectified by replacing the throttle control valve, which cost 70 fitted. It is perfect now
