Considering buying a 1975 1303 VW Beetle, but needs a new engine. How much would it cost to have a new engine fitted?

When you say "fit new engine" do you want an engine supplied and fitted or are you getting an engine that you want someone to fit? best bet would be to join a VW forum these cars are so poppular there must be a few

Do you have any mechanical experience Bubbly? The VW engine has got to be the most simplest going. I did my training with VW's and used to remove a beetle engine in about 10 mins. Replacing should take about 2-3 hours, no more. just lots of tinware really :-) Me and a mate did a camper clutch in 15 mins once whilst the holidaymakers waited for a taxi. Finished before the taxi arrived. They were chuffed :-)

Frais i don't have any mechanical knowledge! The car is on a website that says the engine won't work so i'm guessing that it would be supplied, but not sure! From the second answer (redhelen), i'm guessing it would probably just be cheaper to buy a beetle that already has an engine?
