Castelgarden with 12.5 B&S runs on jump leads and dies when jump is removed?

Hi, I have a Castelgarden TC102 (year 1998) twin-cut rideon mower with a 12.5 B&S engine(model 286707, type 1185-E1). I am awaiting a new battery but meanwhile I can start it using a jump lead from my car but when I remove the jump leads the engine just dies. The engine will run for as long as it is connected with the jump leads to the external power. What could be the problem, Thanks, John.

if it relies on battery power for anything the only thing i can imagine is that the battery on the ride on is so dead its not holding any charge whatsoever?

can you not get the battery from your car and see if it runs through its own steam? if it doesnt i would get it booked it to the local lawn mower mechanics?
