We've just scrapped a written off car that had 4 months tax remaining. The replacement car currently has no tax disc. Can we transfer the tax disc to the new car by exchanging it at the post office?

No, you need to send the disc to the DVLC who will refund the unused duty, then tax your replacement for six or twelve months, in the usual way. Remember, the DVLC will fine you if you fail to do either or both.

As always, thanks Andy! Will send the tax disc off asap.
You're welcome. In view of the love of all beurocracies for paper work contact the DVLA (as they are now called) and make sure you have completed any forms they need to ensure the transition is as smooth and as quick as possible.
To claim a refund you should use form V14 (you can get this from the post office), & send the completed form along with the tax disk to: Vehicle Customer Services, DVLC, Swansea. SA99 1AL. They only refund WHOLE MONTHS, so if you post it on the 1st June, they only refund from July.
